How Our Journey Began

This past summer we were part of an orphan hosting program called Kidsave Summer Miracles®. This program connects families to older orphans from Colombia who have very little chance of being adopted. We had no idea that this decision would change our lives forever, in ways we could never imagine. Ultimately, they matched us with "P", an 11-year-old boy living in an institution. A funny, loving, thoughtful boy with a passion for all things soccer, riding bikes, swimming, puppies and an insatiable love for music and singing.

Waiting to meet "P" for the first time, we anxiously stood in the airport holding up our homemade sign up that read “Bienvenido "P" ” in huge letters across the front. We passed time talking with the other waiting families; all of us feeling a mix of emotions…excitement, anticipation, optimism, and hope.

When "P" finally walked around the corner and we said hello and hugged him for the first time there was an instant connection. A connection that continued to grow and blossom with each passing day, beyond anything we could have ever imagined.  

We spent an incredible summer together, our hearts so full; it was a blessing beyond measure. Many days were full of firsts for "P" – trips to Disneyland, an Angels Game, LA Galaxy soccer camp, 4th of July fireworks, swimming in the ocean for the first time, and even his very first birthday party.  Although these firsts were amazing, some firsts were truly life changing…the first time he lived in a loving, safe and supportive home, the first time someone sat on the edge of his bed reading to him every night, and the first time he was surrounded by people who love him unconditionally.

We knew "P" was meant to be our part of our family from the beginning. Sending him back to the institution in Colombia was one of the hardest things we have ever had to do, it was heartbreaking. "P" underwent a phenomenal transformation while he was with us this summer. His face was so full of light and love and his singing would fill our home every night; he finally found peace and happiness. We know the adoption journey will be long and full of challenges, but nothing will keep us from bringing "P" home to us and giving him the forever family he deserves.

It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $40,000 or more…trust us, it surprised us too!

In fact, there are fees that we must pay at each phase of "P's" adoption process in order to move onto the next phase so, the quicker we can raise the funds, the quicker we can complete his adoption. We know that this will be the biggest hurdle we face so thank you in advance for helping us bring our son home.
