I sat anxiously on the ground in front of a small stool and bucket of water waiting to wash feet. A sweet little boy came and sat on the stool and I dipped his feet in the bucket and began to scrub his precious feet. They were covered in red dirt and he had small sores on his toes and soles of his feet. He sat quietly as I tried so hard to get a smile from him. After washing his feet, I picked him up to take him to the next stool where he would have jiggers removed from his feet. He clung to me so tightly that I could not get him to let me put him down. I sat in the stool with him in my lap while his jiggers were removed from his feet. He was so stoic. I wondered if he was just brave or was this pain minimal compared to what he had already endured in his life. This was just one encounter from clinic that day and only one of MANY stories I have from my experience in Jinja, Uganda with Sole Hope this year. I had the opportunity to see, first hand, the work that Sole Hope is doing in Uganda. 

Thousands of people in Uganda suffer from a foot parasite called jiggers. Jiggers keep kids from going to school, running, and playing. They prevent people from walking and working. People with jiggers often become outcasts. This tiny parasite negatively impacts every aspect of a person's life. The problems are complex but the solutions are simple and can change a person's life forever. Sole Hope is offering HOPE, healthier lives, and freedom from foot-related diseases through education, jobs, and medical relief. Sole Hope believes that actions based on love and hope can change a nation. Our model for love and ultimate hope is that of the greatest Servant, Jesus. 

I knew that the work Sole Hope was doing was incredible but when I experienced Uganda, the clinics, the Sole Hope staff, and the people of Uganda in person, Sole Hope became real. This place is real, the people are real, and the needs are real!
