Luckenson is a 14-year-old boy who lives with his parents and four siblings. Luckenson is used to suffering from strong stomach aches, diarrhea and skin problems due to the parasites, harmful microorganisms and bacteria that live in his drinking water. Contaminated water and waterborne illnesses are the cause of more than half of the deaths in Haiti every year.  

Clean water is life. You have a chance to change the lives of children just like Luckenson.  

In the Belladere region of Haiti, where there is no running water or electricity, it is not uncommon for over 2,000 people to depend on a single water spigot for their daily water needs.  Gathering water becomes the single biggest burden for families, and often takes children out of school and consumes daily life.  This crisis of having access to clean water is a faced everyday by thousands in this community living on less than $2 a day.  

Join us in partnership to bring desperately needed water to this area through an improved municipal water system and a two water wells. Over 12,000 people in communities of Bois Caiman and Roy-Sec will be impacted.   

The project consists of drilling two wells, building a central water tank and installing an energy system and pipelines to reach the households of those communities.  Your support means community members will be freed to begin working themselves out of the chain of poverty that binds them as clean and sustainable water will be made available for the entire community within a short walking distance.  Hygiene and sanitation practices will also be applied preventing deaths of young children caused by unsanitary conditions and water-borne diseases. This well-water project will also help to keep children in school; less time collecting water means more time in class. And finally, sustainable agriculture will be possible, and farm animals will be healthier due to the increase access to water.  

We invite YOU to help tackle this critical issue and respond to the call to walk alongside some of the most vulnerable people in the Western Hemisphere.  From the start of the project in late 2018, we hope to have water flowing to both communities within 6 months.  For possibly the first time in their lives, residents in these communities see a future; a life better than they could ever imagine as cyclical poverty is broken, sustainable agriculture becomes the new normal and education for both girls and boys is available.
