About this Fundraiser

FRIENDS — We need you to DONATE TODAY to provide for immediate relief in Ferrier, Haiti.

Here’s what we know right now:

  • Heavy rains have already begun. The amount of rain will continue to increase in the coming hours with the addition of increasingly strong winds.
  • There will be flooding as many parts of Haiti will get 10+ inches of rain (3 inches of rain in a short period of time can cause a great deal of flooding in a place like Haiti).
  • Most Haitians will not evacuate and a lack of infrastructure will make response difficult.
  • Despite the storm’s shift to the north, WE KNOW that there will be damage to homes and other buildings in the community of Ferrier. Many roofs will be destroyed. We will focus first on providing food, water and shelter to the 400+ people who are part of HON local leader Jean Alix Paul’s church in Ferrier, second on repairing the Village, School & Church, and third on repairing homes in the community.
  • Natural disasters like this cause prices to go up. Not only will we need to help the community of Ferrier in any way we can, but everything will be more expensive (costs of goods throughout Haiti are still up significantly from Hurricane Matthew last year).
  • Our leaders will be ready to respond to needs in their communities, but WE need to be ready to resource them.
  • We already sent $5,000 for preparations and the evacuation of our children and staff from Ferrier Village (buses cost $). NOW, we need to raise another $20,000 right away in order to resource our leaders to help their communities with immediate needs such as clean water, food and shelter. We need you to DONATE TODAY to make this happen.

For the sake of our friends in Haiti, we celebrate the fact that the center of the storm continues to move north of the Haitian coast; however, we understand that while this is good for Haiti, it is bad for other places, including the Bahamas and Florida. We also celebrate the fact that our kids and staff are safe and out of immediate danger. As they rolled into the capital yesterday, Brennon noted that most of the children had never seen Port Au Prince before—expanding their horizon—a small thread of beauty amidst a storm.

The bulk of the storm will pass by Haiti overnight tonight. Starting tomorrow, Brennon and Jean Alix will begin assessing the damage in the north. We will develop a plan over the weekend based on those assessments and launch a larger fundraiser on Monday to resource that plan.

We know this is a challenge. Our Texas tribe is dealing with the aftermath of Harvey. Our tribe in Florida and the southeast is preparing for the impact of Irma. It’s in these moments that God gives us one another.

Please join us in prayer, and please DONATE TODAY to provide for immediate relief in Ferrier, Haiti.
