About this Fundraiser

We have GREAT news!

We are adopting a BOY!

A year ago, we were introduced to Host Ukraine.  It's an organization that gives orphans a loving summer or winter in the US and provides them with a loving family experience.  Being adopted myself, I immediately knew this was something I wanted to be a part of.  While we didn't see ourselves adopting kids of our own, we knew this would be a wonderful way to give back, if even for a short period of time.  We hosted the same boy for summer and winter and ended up thinking about adoption with this boy.  Ultimately, it was not something he wanted and we stopped trying to pursue adoption.  We had some good times and some really tough times, but we hoped we had made a difference in one child's life.  We were sure our hosting experience was complete.

Then came the end of June 2018.  We got the call, asking us if we'd be a backup to a boy that deserved a home.  Our immediate reply was "no."  They continued to ask and we finally agreed, not wanting the boy to have to go back to Ukraine in the middle of hosting.  On July 5th, Zhenya came to AZ.  We weren't sure what to expect.  He was a little disappointed we had no other children for him to hang out with, but seemed to love our dogs.  Z turned out to be an amazing kid.  He was smart, funny, full of life and had such a good soul.  We were amazed that another family hadn't stepped up to adopt this wonderful boy.  And, Z couldn't understand why no one seemed to love him.  He kept asking why previous families seemed to pass him up.  What he didn't know is that he was well loved and had so many advocates, but Z had aged out of the Ukrainian system.  He was 16 and there were almost no families that had special paperwork, that would have need to have been filed, before his 16th birthday.  We just happened to have this paperwork filled out and entered into the system.

When it was time for Z to go back to Ukraine, we were heartbroken.  We hadn't been able to find Z a family to adopt him.  We had grown so close to Z over the course of the summer.  His laughter and kindness filled our house.  We loved him and somehow, along the way, we had become his parents, without ever knowing it.  After Z left, we had some long talks and realized that we wanted this boy in our lives forever.  He was a perfect fit for our family.  It was like he had been here all along.  The void, after his departure, was deep.  We knew what had to be done.  We started the process to adopt Z and bring him home FOREVER.

This adoption is a long road and could take a year (plus or minus a month or two), to get all of our paperwork, home study and dossier done.  As part of our International adoption process, we have started a crowdfunding campaign. It may surprise you to hear that adoption related costs can easily total up to $35,000 or more. This is why we have started this campaign, to help ease the financial burden that often overwhelms adoptive parents and prevents them from helping a child in need. And, as an added bonus, 100% of this donation is tax deductible.  It takes a village, that's for sure, but in the end, we are giving a truly deserving, kind, loving, smart boy his forever family.  We feel blessed that we get to expand our little family.  We are the perfect 3. Will you please consider making a donation?

We hope that by inviting you into this process, you will see yourself as part of the community we hope to build around our boy as he grows and builds a life with us, here in the US.

Thank you for taking the time to read our story and walking on this journey with us.

Cheers,
C, D and Z
