Join us on the “Waiting Game!”
When announcing our desire to adopt a baby, we were quickly welcomed with various comments such as, “Oh, that’s a lot of paperwork” and “Wow! That takes a really long time.” While all of these are true, there is a large portion of our story that not many know -- the part of our story that began our waiting process.
Two years into our marriage, Steven and I felt like we were being called to start a family. For as long as we can both remember, we have always wanted children and liked the idea of being parents. However, shortly into our journey to start a family, I was diagnosed with Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS), followed by the diagnosis of “infertility” and a referral to an infertility specialist. Although my results from the numerous tests came back as normal, doctors were classifying my case as “unexplained infertility.”
As believers, we are called to wait and trust in God’s timing when faced with challenging situations. Swearing that I had given God control of our situation and in the attempts to be strong, I was persistent with all of the tests, medication trials, and doctors’ visits. Two years passed in our infertility journey and I began to beg. This time, I was begging God to let me go further in the process by proceeding with the IUI procedures or approve the injectables that were recommended by doctors, but yet again, He instructed us to “wait.”
In the quietness of healing and waiting, we heard God’s voice again. Our waiting had finally stopped and were shown that God was giving us a different calling, a calling to adopt and on August 26th, we attended our first adoption meeting. Our journey to parenthood has not been traditional. It’s been hard and painful and something we don’t wish on anyone; however, we are thankful that God placed the calling of adoption on our hearts. As we embark on this wild journey, we are thankful for you. Many of you have been encouragers, our shoulders to cry on, and prayer warriors in our time of need. We are so excited that you have agreed to join us and be a part of our “waiting game!”
