We are adopting!
We are beyond excited and are doing everything we can to be prepared to welcome a new child (or children!) into our home.
To be perfectly honest, the idea of crowdfunding our adoption makes us very uncomfortable. We have been blessed with great jobs and steady incomes, and we are financially prepared to provide for our future family. However, because we are planning to adopt "Waiting" children, our adoption process will likely move much quicker than most, which means that we will incur a great deal of our cost up front and all at once--and that is something we are less prepared for.
When we started the adoption process in the fall of 2017, we fully intended to adopt an infant--and only one. We understood that the process would be lengthy, but we looked at this as a blessing: it would give us more time to prepare. But once we started reading through the countless stories of children currently waiting for families (often for years), we began to realize that our situation would actually enable us to provide exactly the environment and support that older children need, too. If nothing else, Brianna's ten years teaching middle and high school mean that she has WAY more experience with teenagers than most first-time parents!
As our hearts and minds were opened to situations we hadn't originally considered, we also began to realize that the financial preparations we had made based on our original expectations will come up short; moreover, the amount of time we'll have to "prepare" has been reduced from years to months. Regardless, we are willing to do whatever is necessary to bring our child(ren) home, and that includes being open about our circumstances with you.
Our hope is to build a loving community around our children, and you are an integral part of that community. Know that your support--in any form--means the world to us.
