As some may know, I served
on my first volunteer medical mission in the Spring of 2017. I, along with
other students from The University of Alabama, made the trip to Estelí,
Nicaragua for a 10-day mission. I have developed a passion for traveling and
giving what I can to people who are not as privileged to receive the quality of
medical care that is offered to us here in the United States. This passion has
inspired me to again travel abroad and serve, this time to our neighbors in the
North.
I will be traveling to
Winnipeg, Canada in May of 2019 to work alongside 24 other students of the
Capstone College of Nursing. Partnering with e3 Missions, and in coordination with Canadian
physicians, we will run clinics, do assessments, provide medications and treatments,
help with dental work, test and fit glasses, and provide education to the First Nations People of the
Manitoba Province – indigenous tribes south of the Arctic Circle. This will be the CCN's first group of students to participate in this trip, and I could not be more thankful to have the opportunity to participate in such an experience.
Any contribution, small or large, will be making a huge difference in the lives
of these people. I have created an online donation page that is an extremely
quick, easy, and secure way to contribute: https://www.purecharity.com/alexa-tepens-fundraiser-for-winnipeg-canada-ca19a. If you would prefer a paper
trail, please private message me, and I would be happy to provide information
on how to do that as well! And as an added perk, all donations are tax
deductible.
It is with utmost appreciation that I express my
thanks for any consideration in helping me to use my knowledge and skills to better
the lives of the First Nations People of Canada. As the first of, hopefully,
many more students to make this trip, it will be helping me to pave the way for
a legacy of continued care and compassion.
