Korah
Korah is a community that sits on the outskirts of Addis Ababa, Ethiopia next to the Koshe garbage dump. The population of this once small community of lepers, has swelled to more than 100,000 people. Many lepers, HIV/AIDS patients, orphans and widows struggle to survive in this community. People in Korah are forced to scavenge from the garbage dump for scraps of food to eat or plastics to sell for small amounts of money. Many residents of Korah have built temporary housing (tents) on land surrounding the dump and this morning more than 200 families were affected by the tearing down of these temporary homes built on government property. Families living on so little now have even less and no place to call home.
We are urgently working to raise funds to provide 6 months of rent for 10 families that were displaced within our program. With the remainder of the funds we desire to come alongside the many others who were displaced to help find safe temporary housing.
