Action

At Restore Academy in Gulu Uganda, there is a solar powered computer and science lab equipped with 10 computers, for a student population of roughly 500. 

That is a 50/1 ratio, with your help we can add 10 computers and cut that ratio in half. Any funds raised beyond will go to purchase additional computers for the lab!

History

Two years ago I approached Restore about building a computer lab as they had no technology program at the school. Through a partnership with Intel, a teacher training and lab installation went forward, but there was only funding for the initial teacher laptops and 10 student computers. The initial lab was a success, and now more opportunities are blooming for the students with a science lab along side the computer lab. There is a real need to expand this already successful program!

Computers

The computers are Intel student laptops especially equipped to be dust, weather and impact resistant. They cost roughly 300 dollars each and run some (but not exclusively) open source software to keep licensing costs low. They run on a local network that allows a classroom of PC's to work together for a computer literacy lesson plan.

About Me

Technology can be transformative and enable opportunities for learning that would not otherwise be available. There are millions of kids in various parts of the world who won't have access to these opportunities unless someone steps in and changes their situation. My name is Josh Frankamp; as a computer enthusiast and a professional software engineer, I want to make a difference for these kids.

Transaction Fees

When you donate online, especially by credit card there are always some transaction fees involved. Pure Charity wraps these up in a 5% service fee (typical baseline credit card fees for raw transactions are 3% + $0.30). This is just the cost of convenience, but leaves some folks questioning why/how their full donation can make it to the target organization.

No worries! For this fundraiser I'll be covering the fees. At the conclusion of the duration of this fundraiser, I'll donate another amount that offsets all of the fees paid by other contributors.
