Major flooding brought by torrential rain hit parts of Freetown, Sierra Leone including Kroo Bay, on September 16, 2015. Word Made Flesh - Sierra Leone works with children and youth from Kroo Bay, one of the poorest areas in Freetown.
Kroo Bay has over 20,000 people and every house has been affected in some way. The community of Word Made Flesh - Sierra Leone has been using our office to provide 25-30 people with a place to sleep. We have also been providing food for large numbers of people, bailing water from homes and assisting with clean up. While we have only been able to touch a bit of the iceberg, we have been able to assist those who are closely associated with our programs. Currently, most families have bailed the water and mud out of their home and now they are in the process of cleaning up and trying to salvage belongings, and there is lots more that needs to be done.
In the longterm, many houses are damaged and destroyed, markets have been lost, school supplies/books are gone. $15,000 USD will be needed to help these families get new bedding and school supplies as everything has been water damaged. See below the breakdown of how we hope to use funds to aid in relief efforts.

Word Made Flesh is community of people vocationally called and committed to serving Jesus among the most vulnerable of the world’s poor. Our communities are spread out all around the world in South America, South Asia, Eastern Europe, West Africa. The work we do in our different communities is dependent on the needs in that location. Currently, we work with children who live and work on the streets. We work with children who have been forced to fight in civil wars. We work with women and children who have been trafficked into the commercial sex industry. And in all our work we aim to infuse hope, empower others and amplify the voices of those who are often not heard.
