Help Us Give Food To Orphans in Burundi!
Children of All Nations is embarking on a project approved and supported by the Burundian government to help 4
orphanages in Burundi
buy goats and set up a vegetable garden. Burundi ranks as the world's 4th poorest country in GDP per capita. As you can imagine, the level of poverty and starvation is very high. The goal of this project is to improve the health and
nutrition of the children, as well as provide a sustainable source of income
for the orphanage to support the children in the future. Why? Because...
- The vast majority of hungry people (98 percent) live in developing countries, where almost 15% of the population is undernourished.
- Poor nutrition causes nearly half (45%) of deaths in children under five - 3.1 million children each year.
- One out of six children -- roughly 100 million -- in developing countries is underweight
- 66 million primary school-age children attend classes hungry across the developing world, with 23 million in Africa alone.

Our
goal is to raise $5000 to build a garden for each orphanage and purchase seeds
and small vegetables to get it started, as well as buy at least 4 goats for
each orphanage.
To supplement the children’s dietary needs, they need
vegetables and protein in their diet. While the orphanage can mostly afford to
feed the children rice, cassava or fufu, these do not contain adequate
nutrition for a growing child. The garden will provide a more balanced
vegetable diet for the children. The goat milk will add a source of protein to
the children’s diet as well, and eventually once the goats reproduce, they can
be used as meat to increase the children’s protein intake, or can be sold to raise money for the orphanage. Instead of the
orphanage spending a lot of money on buying vegetables or meat for the
children, having their own garden and source of protein via the goats will cut
down on the costs for buying food. The money saved can in turn be used for
other much-needed projects and supplies for the children, including clothing, beds, shoes and baby formula.
Thank you for helping us end malnutrition for orphans in Burundi!
