We founded HOPE School of Leadership in June 2013. We currently serve 24 young Kenyan men and women as they progress through the 12 courses in the degree plan. So far, the school has been a huge success story for all those involved. We have over 40 others currently on the waiting list, hoping to be enrolled during our next intake of students in September 2014.
We are committed to providing a FREE online post-secondary education to young Kenyans who are highly motivated but don't have access to a traditional brick-and-mortar education. We are also committed to keeping things as simple as possible (all-volunteer staff in the US, only one salaried employee in Kenya, free and open source curriculum and resources, and no building expenses) so that our primary focus is always on learning. 100% of our operating costs are donated from friends and family.
Darren Wilson, our Director of Online Operations and Lead Instructor, will be traveling from Texas to Kenya in June 2014 to work face-to-face with HOPE School students and staff for two weeks. This will be his first trip back to Kenya since the school started. He's looking forward to finally meeting all of the students in person after having gotten to know them so well over the past 12 months in the online learning space. While most of his work can be done in virtually throughout the year, there's no substitute to being fully present and meeting face-to-face... at least once a year.
We are raising $2,000 for all the items that he will purchase and take with him to Kenya to be used by staff and students over the next 12 months. We're raising money for custom printing of our course completion certificates and portfolios, items for the student incentive program, supplies and resources for our Kenya Operations Director and a special celebration meal for our students to commemorate the first anniversary of the opening of the school. While in Kenya, Darren will also be conducting in-depth training and interviews, in preparation for our new student intake that will take place in September 2014. These things aren't covered in our annual operating budget, so funds must be raised separately.
We invite you to partner with us and provide a quality education to young Kenyans who want to better themselves and become leaders their local communities.
