INFLUENCE GIVING AND SERVING
We are
THRILLED to announce a new initiative within The Influence Network--our
GIVING AND SERVING ARM. We want to lead this community well, equip you with the resources to make your online life mean something, and then give you ways to tangibly partner with some of the most amazing ministries and non-profits out there. We'll be launching periodic fundraising initiatives, service opportunities, and even trips. The Internet is going to be alive with HOPE because women like you come and give and serve.
INFLUENCE HOPE IN JINJA WITH SOLE HOPE
We have long planned to work with Sole Hope--but this summer, we read a post by Sole Hope founder Dru Collie called
A Very Bad Horrible No Good Day. We often talk about staying tender to the needs of the downtrodden and cast away, and this was a moment where our ears were burning and our hearts were pounding. Suddenly, the problem felt personal. We couldn't un-know what we'd read. We needed to act and find a way to fund a nurse (hopefully 2!!) for Sole Hope.
The Problem: Jiggers
At each clinic,
Sole Hope sees several children with gangrene and foot rot.
These secondary problems caused by jiggers can cause loss of toes, limbs, and even death in serious cases. Jiggers: Female jiggers or sand fleas burrow into humans to lay their eggs creating open sores or wounds, which are prone to parasitic infection. People who do not wear closed toe shoes, such as children, are most commonly affected.
Many of the cases involving jiggers leave the children with large open wounds. Sole Hope's team applies antibiotic cream and wraps the wounds, but ensuring that rewrapping is done properly is almost impossible.
Simply put, Sole Hope needs your help! Sole Hope needs more local nurses that will have the time, expertise and knowledge on how to follow up properly with the children who need medical attention.
Sponsor a Nurse for Sole Hope!
Help sponsor a certified RN who will help take care of the children dealing with medical issues as a result of jiggers. The nurse will also provide education to other local women regarding infection control and prevention and she will administer drugs and shots to those in the community who need treatment.
Sole Hope will be giving a nurse full time sustainable work that she can count on monthly. This is something that will allow her to buy food, pay school fees, pay rent, and the basic necessities of life.
The money raised will pay for medical equipment, medication, transportation, and the Nurse's salary for a year.
