Our Story:

The seed of Be the Bridge (BTB) started with prayer in 2013 and from there God began his work of bridge building. In the spring of 2013, Latasha Morrison gathered a few of her friends and strangers for the first racial unity group.  It was a diverse group of ladies from very different backgrounds but what they had in common was a love for Jesus and a willingness to listen, share and learn about each other’s experiences specifically related to the difficult topic of race. What started as an informal conversation gathering resulted in healing, understanding, genuine friendships and unity that displayed God’s heart for diversity in his family.   Together these women and their families, shared meals, marched together on MLK day, grieved over the racial brokenness in our nation, and prayed for healing in Christ’s body.

As a member of this group, Jennie Allen, the founder and visionary of IF:Gathering, ask Tasha to show and demonstrate what it looked like to gather around the racial unity table at IF: Gathering 2015. From there, what was a group became a movement, a movement of God’s Spirit through his people as be the bridge groups formed throughout the country. This timing could not have been better. Just as the racial tension and conflict escalated in our country God was raising up his Church to extend the work of racial healing. This movement would advance through the creation of authentic personal relationships among his children from various racial backgrounds they unite in living out the gospel with each other.

Today, the BTB movement consists of over 100 groups throughout the US and our group conversation guide: The Bridge to Racial Unity has had over 8000 downloads. There is an online community of bridge builders in our Facebook group with over 2600 members. The group has been a forum for learning as members from different ethnicities practice the values of BTB and grow their understanding towards being effective bridge builders in their community. Recently, a separate Facebook group of BTB group leaders was formed to support those who are actively transforming their local community through forming and leading BTB groups.

In order to shepherd the movement that God has started, Be the Bridge is now formed as a 501c3 organization. Our mission is to:

  • Inspire the Church to have a distinctive and transformative response to racial division. The Church to be present and intentional towards racial reconciliation.
  • Equip bridge builders towards fostering and developing vision, skills and heart for racial unity.
  • Build partnerships with existing organizations who have heart for diversity, racial justice, restoration and reconciliation.

To live out our mission, we are actively strengthening our online presence, developing video and podcast content to inspire more followers of Jesus to become bridge builders. To equip our current bridge builders, we will be providing a revised edition of the conversation guide for their use along with other resources to enhance their effectiveness in building unity in their communities. Lastly, we want to partner with other like-minded and like-hearted organizations to advance justice, diversity and unity for the Church.

Our vision is for Christians to be healed and transformed so to become authentic bridge builders, the Church to be credible and ultimately for God to be glorified. We could not imagine what God has already done and we are humbled and hopeful that He will bring a revival in his Church as he unites his people to live out Christ’s prayer for unity for his body.
