My daughter, Skylar, was diagnosed with a terminal condition at 2 months old and passed away right before she turned 2.
Her life, although short, has inspired me to dream big. Through our suffering, I realized how meaningful photos can be through the grief and healing process. We had professional photos taken when she was 3 months, 7 months, and 16 months old and those photos are the only pictures we have showcased in our home. They are the only photos that capture us as a family of 3 and honor her life for those who never had the chance to meet her.
After Skylar was gone, I found myself donating sessions to anyone diagnosed with a terminal illness. I was honored to be able to pay it forward and help others have tangible prints to enjoy that could also help in the grief after their loved one passed away. I found myself doing sessions frequently and decided it was time to start a non-profit to allow me to serve people on a larger scale.
Originally named The Skylar Project with a tagline of Love Not Lost, we decided to make Love Not Lost the main name, since it communicated the heart of our mission and what we are about. We provide free portrait sessions and photo books to those facing a terminal diagnosis to capture and preserve their memory. Through our services, we build meaningful relationships and community to celebrate life and love in the midst of grief.
Our goal is to raise $3,000 in recurring monthly donations. As a monthly donor, you will be building the foundation of Love Not Lost to allow us to serve applicants who are waiting, and also plan to serve people in the future. Your donation is crucial in our success as an organization and we hope you will join us in our mission to help those facing a terminal diagnosis by bringing hope through love and photography.
Thank you so much for being a part of this community and helping me accomplish something that's very, very important to me. I can't do this alone. Everyone deserves to be remembered and with your help, we can make sure that happens!
