Dear Children at Gayman Elementary School,
Marie Carline was born on November 11, 2009 in Boisneuff. She currently lives with her parents, two brothers and one sister. Her father is a farmer and her mother sells in the market. Each family member is able to eat one full meal a day. Marie Carline does attend school and enjoys it very much.
The family home is very small and the walls are falling apart. There is a small yard with a stick/tarp made shady area where the children can enjoy time out of the sun. She can usually be found playing dolls with her sister or with her brother Blanchard. She also enjoys playing hand games (Miss Mary Mack kind of games). She is not shy at all and will come right up to you and talk. She is very sweet with her younger brother Blanchard and lets him tag along with her every day. She also comes to the Well often to get water for her family.
THANK YOU for taking the bold step of becoming a child sponsor through Poverty Resolutions! We are grateful for your heart for Haiti and for your financial support of some of the world's poorest people. Your sponsorship helps provide; education, daily meals, clothing, shoes, medical care and more! Without your sponsorship, Edens would not have these things-things which we believe will lead to more opportunities later in life.
Child Sponsorship Story
A desire to keep families together and support the community bore the child development program, which is designed to provide a safe, developmentally appropriate environment for dozens of local children to learn and grow. Many of Haiti’s orphans are considered “economic orphans” – meaning they have at least one living parent, but that parent cannot afford to keep the child. Our program allows the parent to work while their kids are being cared for.
The first stage of the program will be childcare – providing an experience that promotes every child’s social, cognitive, emotional and physical development. Many of Haiti’s children are left unattended during the day and, as a result, are lacking in some areas of development; their parents do not have the time or resources to devote to them since their primary concern is being able to provide the basic necessities to sustain life. Children will be fed and cared for and, as the children grow, an education will be provided as well. We also plan to implement monthly home visits by our staff in order to foster involvement in the life of the entire family.
