Walk Where Jesus Walked, Minister Where Jesus Ministered
What could be more immersive and exciting than backpacking along the paths where Jesus walked 2000 years ago? In June, I am partaking in just such an opportunity. We will be backpacking along the so-called "Jesus Trail," camping in the desert, and ministering to people on the way. We will also be hosting children's camps and vision clinics, all while working along side nationals who have local connections everywhere we go. God has so blessed this trip that the mayor of one of the mostly-Muslim villages has personally endorsed our activities!
The Desert Dwellers
One of the groups we will be focusing on are the Bedouins. The name Bedouin comes from the Arab word “Bedou,” translated “desert dweller.” Over 2 million Bedouins reside in Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Israel, quietly tending to livestock in their remote villages. They adhere to a strict social hierarchy that involves close attention to their code of honor. As the western world slowly encroaches on their lives, some Bedouins have abandoned their traditional lifestyle and moved into nearby cities.
A large contingency of Bedouins currently live in the regions of Negev and Galilee in Israel, often in unrecognized villages. This makes them ineligible for municipal resources and certain citizenship rights. An estimated 110,000 Bedouins have settled into 50 of these villages, comprising 2% of the Israeli state population.
What We’re Doing
While Christian resources are available in their Arabic tongue, less the .3% of the people profess Christ, making them largely unengaged.
This expedition will venture into the uncharted Bedouin villages of Israel, where we will come face-to-face with this amazing community. We will build new relationships, demonstrate the love of Christ, and serve these incredible people.
Secondly, we will be hosting camps for children and sharing the good news with them. Later in the day, we will be going door to door, meeting locals, creating friendships and opening up spiritual conversations. We have also partnered with some eye doctors to be able to provide a free vision clinic to the village. We will be giving free eye examinations and glasses to those in need.
Join me in this exciting journey!
