Miller Alan Hill, beloved son of Rachel and Alan Hill and brother to favorite person, Kennedy, enjoyed a short, but mighty life. He loved his family, new people and places, but more than anything, Miller LOVED to eat. While he had only been eating solid foods about three months, mealtime gave him tremendous joy. Avocado was his first food, but soon became the only food he refused to eat (unless it was unknowingly mixed with sweet potato, his all-time favorite food).
We have partnered with NWA Food Bank for a local food drive. Help us carry on on Miller’s love affair with food, by donating food items to help those in need this holiday season. This is another way to honor Miller and our way of giving back to a community that continues to support us through the hardest days of our life, while keeping Miller’s memory close to our hearts. He would have turned one year old on Christmas day and would have enthusiastically approved of food-sharing during the holidays.
Our hope is to raise 10,000 meals through this drive in memory of Miller. Because of the overwhelming community support we have surpassed our inital goal of 10,000 meals a week early! Since our community has come out in support in such a big way we have increased our goal to 15,000 meals! Every dollar donated turns into 5 meals that go back into the Northwest Arkansas community, so every $1=5 meals in Miller's honor.
We had our eyes opened by the below statistics about the need for support in the NWA community.
Over 121,000 people are food insecure in our four county area
1 in 4 NWA Residents are food insecure
14% of Senior Citizens in NWA are food insecure
38% of the clients served are under the age of 18
61% of students in NWA on the "Free and Reduced Meal" programs
Northwest Arkansas leads the state in food insecurity
Arkansas has the second highest rate of food insecurity in the United States - 20% of Arkansans do not know where their next meal will come from
- Arkansas has the highest rate of senior hunger in the United States
