ABOUT HUNGER IN NWA
No one should go hungry, yet in Northwest Arkansas over 121,000 men, women, senior citizens and children face hunger every day.
The number of hungry people has increased in the past years, but the Northwest Arkansas Food Bank continues to fight for everyone to have access to nutritious food to eat.
Over 121,000 people are food insecure in our four county area
1 in 4 NWA Residents are food insecure
14% of Senior Citizens in NWA are food insecure
38% of the clients served are under the age of 18
61% of students in NWA on the "Free and Reduced Meal" programs
Northwest Arkansas leads the state in food insecurity
Arkansas has the second highest rate of food insecurity in the United States - 20% of Arkansans do not know where their next meal will come from
Arkansas has the highest rate of senior hunger in the United States
DONATIONS ARE MADE: The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank secures donations from the food and grocery industries, government agencies, and other organizations.
FOOD IS STORED: The food that is donated or purchased is then stored in our 22,000 square foot warehouse located in Bethel Heights.
FOOD IS DISTRIBUTED: The Northwest Arkansas Food Bank arranges pick-ups with it’s 140+ member charitable agencies.
FOOD REACHES THOSE IN NEED: Donations are provided to people in need at food pantries, soup kitchens, youth programs, senior centers, schools, and emergency shelters.
