Pea Ridge National Military Park has approximately 28 miles of hiking trails within the Park boundary. At one time these trails were clearly marked by medallions that were placed in trees along the routes of the trail system.

Decades have past since these markers were installed. Trees have grown taller and foliage thicker; medallions have fallen off trees and the spacing placement of the markers makes it difficult for hikers to maneuver trails safely.

This project will benefit all visitors of the Park who enjoy trails. It will add safety and direction along the trail system within the Park for all our visitors who enjoy hiking.  In addition to the trails, the Park contains two historic routes: Telegraph Road stagecoach route used by the Butterfield Overland Mail Route in 1858 and the Trail Of Tears used during the Cherokee Migration of 1838-1839.

The Park has active plans to restore the trail systems, which are overgrown, since last used more than a couple of decades ago. This would represent the Foundation’s kick-off project to begin providing trail directional signs marking the trails within the Park. Our goal is to raise $4,400 toward this project. The scope of the project, as currently planned, is to provide 36 Trail Directional Signs that meet National Park Service specifications.
