Plywood People is an innovative community addressing social needs. We have 2 main areas of focus: Education and Implementation.
We host a series of conferences, events, and retreats focused on helping people bring their ideas to life. We want to be known by the problems we solve, and we want the community of social innovators around us to also be known for how they are solving problems.
Our vision is to make Atlanta the center for social innovation in the world.1) How will Atlanta be known as the place for problem solving solutions to social needs?
2) How do we educate leaders and their communities to live differently and engage in problem solving education that changes communities?
3) How do we transform one community (Clarkston) as a local example to give us the right to be heard globally on conscious commerce, social justice and awareness?
We are working to begin transforming the community of Clarkston Georgia. We literally have the world in our back yard. Every year 3500 refugees from all over the world are resettled in the Clarkston area. Their primary need is jobs, so we are working to create jobs in that community. We are engaging refugees in a 1 year job training course where they are learning to sew, English, and financial management with the goal that at the end of the year in the program, they are able to move into jobs where they can make more than minimum wage. Through this project, we are earning the right to speak into other social innovations.
