There’s a good chance that right now somewhere around the world or just a short distance away, a dedicated group of volunteers and Samaritan’s Feet staff are distributing shoes and hope to children in need.
In 2013 alone, we will have managed or partnered with close to 500 events distributing a total of approximately 1.1 million pairs of shoes.
We refuse to accept the fact that the almost 3 billion people living in poverty are hungry, don’t have access to healthcare, and can’t afford education and basic articles of clothing and shoes (World Bank, 2008). People without shoes face dangers like laceration, fungus, and insect bites that can lead to infection, disease, and even death. Children with no shoes are often not allowed entrance to education in many countries and can find their way into slavery, or unsafe and inexcusable child labor environments.
Samaritan’s Feet shares hope with children in the U.S. and around the world by washing their feet, giving them a new pair of shoes, and helping them believe that their dreams can come true. We at Samaritan’s Feet believe that a new pair of shoes can be a tangible foundation of hope to a person in need.
Every time we sit across from a child, we not only meet their physical needs with a pair of shoes and socks, but we spend quality time with them asking about their dreams and their lives. These distributions are the outpouring of the Samaritan’s Feet commitment to changing hearts and saving souls and lives forever.
Shoes of Hope distributions are generally one day events where our volunteers and staff welcome participants, share Samaritan’s Feet story of hope, wash their feet, and provide them with a new pair of socks and shoes. Our distributions provide unique opportunities for our individual volunteers, families, small groups, churches, and corporations to encourage, provide comfort, and share hope.
