I can't believe that two weeks here have flown by so quickly! In one way, it seems like I just got here. I've been learning Romanian, how to get from my home to the Center (where I work), and what my involvement here looks like. But in another way, I feel that I've been here awhile as I've settled into a routine and the people here have embraced and welcomed me completely! This has been a huge blessing as everything is so different.
So what am I doing here? Let me give you a quick glimpse of what a standard day looks like for me. I'm up and out the door by 7:30 for a mile walk to the center. We start work at 8 with staff devotions and reflection time. After that, I have Romanian lessons. That is followed with home visits of the families Word Made Flesh works with here. Somewhere throughout the rest of the day I'm doing a book study on community organizing with this context in mind, having lunch, playing with the kids that attend the center, and working on asset mapping. This is one way to help a community see all that God has given them collectively and individually. I get to ask questions like what are your gifts and what do you want to do to make your community better. I can't even begin to describe the blessing it is to see people's face light up with ideas of what they could do and how they could use their skills for change. God has made each person young and old unique and this community is no different. It is inspiring to have a front row seat to see how God has made each person!
That's a quick glimpse into a day, of course like any ministry no day is every the same! The kids are on their semester break this week and I'm looking forward to getting to know them better. Keep praying for me and for all of Word Made Flesh Romania!
