Life is just crazy busy so I have to apologize for not updating as often as I need to. The only good news about the delay is the fact that it has bought us some more time to raise the $4,500 which will need to be paid once our home study is done.
To answer some of your questions:
Are we still adopting? Yes! That is still the plan but it is a crazy long process!
When will we travel to get the two children? Our best guess is that it will be at least summer of 2016, but may be fall of 2016.
Why does it take to long? This is a really hard question to answer in less than 5 million words. The short answer is that everything is a process and every process is in place to help reduce the risk of child abuse and trafficking. Adoptive parents have to be checked, re-checked, cross-checked, background checked, educated, medical reviews ...it is really insane how much documentation needs to be done! Parents must really, REALLY, REALLY want to do this for feel overwhelming called to adopt or they would not do it!
Where are we in the process now? We are just about finished with our home study. We have a couple pieces of documentation that must accompany our home study. With the holidays, we have experienced a few weeks of delay because of when we can get this documentation in place. The bummer with this documentation is that it will costs us and additional $400 which we had not planned for.
Why do we have more pictures of the little girl than the little boy? The little girl is in foster care and the little boy is in an orphanage. Since she is in a foster care system, they make sure to take a lot of pictures and load them into an online account. Therefore, we can log in every once in awhile and see new pictures. Since the little boy is in an orphanage, we have to ask our social worker to email a contact in the other country and ask specific questions and ask for specific pictures or videos. This is obviously not very convenient and we cannot make a complete nuisance of ourselves!
How old are the children? The little girl is four and the little boy is three.
