Community Participants

We’d love to get a large and varied group together: pastors, employers, college students, families with kids (8 and up). For our part, we’ll be bringing along some staff as well as some of our refugee clients, who are eager to share their stories on Capitol Hill.

About this trip

WHEN:  March 13-14. Leaving early out of XNA on March 13th and arriving in DC by late morning. Flying out on the 14th in the late afternoon to arrive back at XNA by the evening.
HOW MUCH:  $600 per person (this price includes airfare, most meals, one night’s accommodations and transportation from and to airport). The majority of the cost is airfare, and we’re keeping it as inexpensive as we can by staying at the National 4-H Youth Conference Center just outside of DC. The cheapest rooms are Quads, so that’s what we’ll reserve for you by default, but if you’d prefer to book a double or single room and pay a little extra, we’re happy to arrange that for you. Just let us know when you sign up! We encourage you to fundraise for your trip if you need a little extra help! The only other costs you’ll have to cover are transportation within DC, meals while traveling and dinner on the 13th.
WHAT: Advocacy training, hill visits with our congressional delegation on the 13th and 14th, and maybe some museum visits if we have time.
WHO:  Anyone! We’d love to get a large and varied group together: pastors, employers, college students, families with kids (8 and up). For our part, we’ll be bringing along some staff as well as some of our refugee clients, who are eager to share their stories on Capitol Hill.
WHY: We are currently witnessing the dismantling of the refugee resettlement program. Since 2017 we have seen a dramatic drop in refugee arrivals to the U.S. We want to make sure our elected officials know that Northwest Arkansas is FOR refugee resettlement and we want to update them on our families and community’s heart for welcoming refugees home.
