About this trip

Welcome to the experience of a lifetime!

We are super excited that you are planning to travel with us to serve on the ADRA Connections (CNX) Trip to Cusco, Peru! This is going to be an amazing experience and we will greatly improve the lives of the students, teachers and families where we will be working. Within the high altitude communities of the Andes Mountains, many families struggle to access quality education due to difficult homes lives, specifically due to the cold and the harsh conditions. We will spend the week teaching in three local schools, sharing in teacher-exchange with the local educators, and installing the life-changing "technologies" in the homes of several local students. This is a part of ADRA Peru's Warm Homes project. Be prepared to teach lesson plans, share teaching resources and strategies with local educators and school directors, and to get your hands dirty installing wood floors, building brick stoves, and finish bathrooms with toilets, showers and sinks.

Key trip information:

Dates  This trip will take place July 9 – 19, 2027 during the summer season. ADRA CNX will have staff waiting for your group on Friday, July 9 at the Cusco International Airport (CUZ) and take you 2hours by bus to our basecamp: ADRA Peru's Chuquicahuana Camp. This is where we will have our welcome dinner and official trip orientation and understand the details of our project. If your group wants to fly in earlier, you are welcomed to do so; just let us know beforehand and make sure you're there to meet us at the airport on July 9.

Project Location & Living Conditions  The project is in high-altitude communities (14,000 feet above sea level) located in the mountains of the Cusco region. We take health and safety very seriously and altitude-related sickness will be our primary focus. We will be staying each night in the beautiful grounds of Chuquicahuana Camp which has dormitories with private bathrooms, an amazing restaurant where we will eat all our meals, and an auditorium where we will have all our worships and meetings. Be prepared for basic showers, beds, and incredible meals. We will have access to showers and bathrooms with running water, but we will provide clean water for drinking to fill your 32oz CNX water bottle that you will get in your SWAG bag. Keep in mind that in the Southern Hemisphere, July is in the middle of winter. So pack warm clothes! We will give you an ADRA CNX T-shirt and warm beanie, but you'll need sweaters, gloves, and layers with long sleeves. A full packing list will be sent to you so you can be fully prepared. Because of the altitude, you can expect temperatures to fluctuate from 25°F at night to up to 70°F at midday, so layers that you can easily take off or put on is the best strategy.

Group Size  This is going to be a very exciting trip because we will have teachers and educators from all over the USA working together in groups. You should plan to make friends and networking contacts within the world of Education. We expect to have about 35 in total, but we can take more, so tell your friends to join us.

Cost per Person

  • ADULTS: $3,000 per person. The cost of this trip includes project costs and all the logistics costs, including food, lodging, water, transportation, tourism, travel insurance, translators, work experts, support staff – everything you’ll need to be a productive member of the team. This does not include airfare as you will pay that directly to the airline of your choice.
  • STUDENTS: $2,000 per person. If you are a student under the age of 26 and want to apply for this CNX Scholarship discount, please fill out the online form before you register. If you are approved, you'll get a separate link with the discounted price. THANK YOU to our donors who make these scholarships possible. You can find the application on our website here: https://adraconnections.org/scholarships-18-25-years/

Airfare and Fees  You will have to coordinate your own airfare. The cost of the airfare will NOT be sent to ADRA as you will give that directly to the airline. The listed cost of this trip does NOT include any visa fees, passport application fees, vaccinations, luggage fees, or transportation to/from airport in the USA. Basically, once you get to Cusco on July 9, we’ll meet you there and take care of everything else.

Contacts  You can work directly with the CNX team to coordinate the group and travel details. Adam Wamack and Sharmila Roda are the ADRA CNX trip leaders and will be your main points of contact for any specific questions you might have (students, parents or anyone else are welcomed to ask questions). Once you register for the trip and start fundraising, you will receive the full ADRA Peru Trip Guide with FAQs, a packing list and more details about travel and the location where we’ll be staying, so keep an eye out for that. We hope to see you there!

Register for the Trip  Registration requires a non refundable down payment of $500 to lock in your spot. You then have to fundraise the rest before your travel. When you register, you have to input a credit card number. This card will be charged the remainder of the cost several days before travel if you don't fundraise.

You can start gathering your medical, personal, and emergency information and preparing for your trip. Keep in mind that you CANNOT use Pure Charity to fundraise for your airfare; that must be done separately, by law. You will also receive a trip guide with information about the country, the language, a packing list, vaccination recommendations and much more.

Thank you for choosing to work with ADRA Connections and to serve our partners on the ground. We really appreciate the time, money and effort you are putting into this. Welcome to the team!
