Thank you for your participation in a Help One Now Learning Journey! The Help One Now ethos is to remain invisible in our communities and focus our efforts on resourcing key leaders instead. Help One Now leads a limited number of Learning Journeys for committed, long-term supporters (Church Partners, Child Sponsors, Foundation members, and Love Hope Partners) each year. On these Journeys, emphasis will be placed on connecting with a community, building deep relationships with the local leaders, and brainstorming how you can unlock your human capital to partner together and support their work back home.
Fostering Camp to Success' mission, this trip will empower its participants to participate in hands on, empowering opportunities to develop leadership skills, experience intercultural development, and cultivate cross-cultural communication skills. We encourage everyone, including our younger community members, to get involved in understanding and engaging with our communities abroad so that they can attain an appreciation of how complex working in these other communities can be. Consequently, we hope that our participants will return home educated by their experiences with our local leaders and their work to later become advocates for the country and its people so that they may grow with their experiences and support our communities in a meaningful and appropriate way!
On this trip, we are excited for you to:
● meet and fall in love with our local leaders and the children they serve
● learn from our local leaders by hearing their stories and engaging in their communities. Doing this helps us, the visitors, understand the unique issues in different environments
● see the impact of our projects firsthand and gain a new understanding of how complex working in these communities can be
● become advocates of the country, people and orphans that you meet when you return home. You are the tribe; we need you to run with these stories and partner with us to make an impact
● explore and enjoy the unique culture and of Haiti, cultivating the strength and courage to witness the suffering of others but also joy and hope for future

A few things to note about this trip:
As you may be aware, Haiti is currently in a state of unrest and our local leaders are working hard to maintain safety and care for their respective communities. We ask that you please keep them in your prayers!
We do not anticipate that the current situation will cause any disruption to your trip later this year. However, we will continue to monitor the situation very closely in the coming months and will keep you up to date should any concerns surrounding your trip arise. Please feel free to join our Facebook page for Haiti updates, should you wish to follow along!
Haiti UpdatesAirfare and all expenses on the ground (meals, lodging, transportation) are included in the trip price, but any other costs associated with your trip would be your responsibility (those costs may include spending money, or appointments at a travel clinic before your trip, for example). We do allow our trip participants to fundraise through their registration pages in order to make those trip costs more manageable!
Those traveling are required to carry a passport with an expiration date further than 6 months away from the date of travel. Should your passport have already expired, or should your passport expire within the 6 months after your intended trip dates, you can mail in your old passport to get it expedited and renewed.
HERE is where you can find more information on how to renew your passport.
If you are under the age of 18 and are traveling without a parent or legal guardian present, we will email out a form to get signed by parents or legal guardians, giving permission to travel out of country with the team! You will be in great hands with the Help One Now staff and Carra Milikien!
In addition, the Center for Disease Control (CDC) recommends various vaccinations for international travelers depending on your destination country. Please visit a medical professional or a travel clinic as soon as you know you are traveling abroad, as they may recommend particular vaccinations or medicine based on your destination, some vaccinations are not always immediately available, and some vaccinations need to be administered over the course of months. **Please ensure you are up to date on all routine vaccinations. These vaccinations include a measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis vaccine, varicella (chickenpox) vaccine, polio vaccine, and a flu shot! Most of you are up to date on these anyway!**
Haiti does not currently have any
required vaccinations; however, we recommend the Hepatitis A vaccination, a Typhoid treatment (pill or shot), and Malaria medication as well.
Some travelers choose to receive the Cholera and Hepatitis B vaccinations, but please rest assured: we know these lists may seem overwhelming, but all of these vaccinations are entirely optional and are merely precautions!
