About this trip

Trip Cost: $2,400

Application Deadline: September 15th, 2018

Hear The Cry has felt called towards Iraq due to the turmoil and refugee situations; to a country that for the most part, nobody is going into. Jesus calls us into the places that most are running away from. We want to run towards this beautiful historic country in the northern Kurdish region of Iraq to love like Jesus, engage with children and adults who are seeking refuge, and to offer education.

We believe education is a major culture shaper in the future of a country when it comes to poverty alleviation, equality in education, and even the education around beliefs and religion. This type of education is huge to opening doors of acceptance and mercy.

On the ground, Billy and Dawn Ray have been living with their family in northern Iraq for the past seven years and have been working with the mayor on a community center school for skills training, English classes, and Kurdish classes. Our partnership with the Rays and Restore International helped launch this school and this past year, a hospital was established just down the street from the community center.

As the school was being developed, 120 people hiked over the mountains when Isis took over their village. These families came to safety in Soran, and are now living as refugees in this town. Currently, there are 2 locations of homes that host these families; one of those locations has 40 homes and is just down the street from the community center, school, and clinic. This is where we will make our home for the week.

Our teams will spend time with these families during the days. Visiting them in their new homes, providing them with food and provisions for cooking, listening to their stories, and building relationships with them.  In the afternoons we will work with the kids in an after school program that offers music, arts, games, help with homework, and a place for the children to continue to learn. We will also have the chance to help in the school and new hospital. Our evenings will be spent with the team.

You're invited to be part of this opportunity and apply today.
