Located along the southwestern Pacific coast of Mexico, the state of Michoacan is home to over 4.3 million residents who enjoy its vast beauty and endless mountainscapes. The land is crossed by the Trans-Mexican Volcanic Belt, which features many active and dormant volcanoes.
While many tourists are drawn to its beauty, the communities in Michoacan are also known for their rich heritage. The state was home to the Tarascan and Aztec Empires. In later years, the people played a central role in Mexico’s fight for independence. Today, it is a quiet region where agriculture, fishing, and mining are mainstays.
What We’re Doing
Positioned near Michoacan’s capital, the Purepecha people work the land they’ve held for centuries. The population of 72,000 has a very limited understanding of the Gospel message. This expedition specifically aims to reach them. Throughout the week, we will provide free eye exams. As individuals come into the clinics, they will receive free eyeglasses that will dramatically improve their quality of life.
The eye clinics will also open doors for us to share the Gospel with the Purepecha people. As individuals receive Christ, they will be connected with local Christians who will organize them into small groups and future churches. In just one week, you can provide life-changing medical care, spread the Gospel, and leave a legacy that will far outlive your time on this Earth.
