Assistant Team Leader
On a typical Mission Trip, team members feel a sense of accomplishment…afterward, they talk about what they did and who they helped.
However, on a Second Chance trip team members feel a sense of tension and unrest…afterward, they talk about what they learned and what they hope to accomplish moving forward. They become advocates! The end of the trip becomes a starting line.
What you need to know about coming on a trip with Second Chance:
We focus our efforts on resourcing key leaders as much as possible. We partner with local pastors and leaders and ask them, “What does your community need to be transformed?” By working alongside indigenous leaders, your impact will last long after you return home. We aim to encourage, serve, and learn from our partners.
Going is a discipleship opportunity that gives each team member a chance to tangibly see what is happening in another culture and prayerfully transform the way they live their lives at home. These trips are opportunities for those who invest in our mission to see the work they are investing in. We enjoy serving our Church Partners and all those who invest in our programs.
You will hear stories and engage in the communities. Doing this helps us, the foreigners, understand the unique issues in different environments. You will see the impact of projects firsthand and gain a new understanding of how complex but important working in these communities can be. You will understand how short-term mission trips can make a sustainable impact with a strategic approach. You will become advocates of the country and people that you meet when you return home.
On these trips, the emphasis will be on connecting with a community, building deep relationships with the local leaders, and brainstorming how you can unlock your human capital to partner together and support their work back home.
Angela Lowery and 7 others are participating in this trip.
