We envision flourishing families and communities that have the knowledge to avoid unplanned adolescent pregnancy, and if it occurs, the wisdom to prevent teenage mothers from abandoning their opportunity to thrive.
Education
- Through a partnership with local residents, we provide factual reproductive health education for schools, community groups, and churches. The focus is on prevention through various practices beyond abstinence, while still respecting established cultural and church values.
- Our facilitators spend time in each of our partner locations mentoring the youth on a regular basis.
- Menstrual hygiene education and supplies are provided to adolescent girls to help them remain in school during their monthly cycle.

Prevention
When adolescent pregnancy does occur, it becomes difficult for families to navigate the future. With local pastors, facilitators and community leaders providing support to families and youth, it is our hope that teens will remain in the family home and continue with their education. We are able to achieve this through sponsorships.
Our Kenyan staff and board members come alongside the most vulnerable girls and their families to construct a plan for them to attend school. When a girl meets our criteria, we seek to obtain a commitment from the family to support her studies and ensure she can safely participate in school and determination from the girl. We also consult with the family to address their greatest challenges and work together to come up with tailored long term, sustainable solutions.

SAFE HOUSE – Overwhelming poverty, deep cultural traditions, and taboos steeped in tribal spirituality cause some youth in these communities to make life-threatening decisions. Girls can be left to choose between living on the unsafe streets, seeking illegal and unsafe termination, forced early marriage, and even suicide. While it is always our hope for families to reach reconciliation through outreach counseling and sponsorships and for girls to remain in the family home, the reality is that it is not always safe for them to do so.
It is our dream for girls in this situation to have a safe and healthy place to stay where they can continue their education until community leaders can develop a plan that will allow them to thrive.
We are currently seeking funds for land and the construction of the safe house. To stay up to date on our progress please sign up for our newsletter. flourishkenya.org/sign-up
