Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord. Be joyful in hope, patient in affliction, faithful in prayer. Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Romans 12:9-13
Shortly after I started nursing, I got a job working at an OB/GYN clinic where I worked with women and developed a love for pregnancy. After I had 3 kids of my own, I put work aside but always sensed I would get the opportunity to use my gifts someday.
Last year at church they played a video showcasing a non-profit called MamaBaby Haiti. They are a free birth center in Northern Haiti that provides free prenatal, birth, and postnatal care for moms and their babies. Haiti has the highest infant and maternal mortality rate in the Western Hemisphere, a fact that can easily be remedied by the access to safe and thorough maternity care. Their mission immediately spoke to me and I knew I had to go and get involved on the next trip. Visit mamababyhaiti.org to see all of the ways Hear the Cry serves the women of Haiti. It’s incredible!
Logistically there is never a perfect time, but there is an opportunity to go in April so here goes nothing!
Every donation is important and will enable me to be present and help others in need. Would you kindly consider making a donation?
