Loma Linda University exemplifies its values of global health services by reaching out to communities in need. I attend this university because I strongly believe in these values and this summer I will be traveling with a team of my classmates from Loma Linda University’s Department of Physical Therapy to help the Mexny Orphanage in Haiti.
Haiti's natural disasters have left it in poverty and Haiti is one of the poorest countries in the world. Currently 78% of Haitians live on less than $2 per day, and it is the one of the hungriest country in the world. The Mexny Orphanage is suffering the effects of poverty and is in desperate need of a proper sanitary kitchen to meet the basic needs of children. The area currently used as a kitchen does not have enclosed walls, sinks or proper flooring. Our team’s mission in Haiti is to build a proper working kitchen, provide free healthcare services to the community, and train rehab technicians so that they can better serve their community.
It's easy to forget how blessed we are to have our family, a roof over our head, sanitary living conditions, and education. The things I "need" suddenly turn out to be things I want; the children and community of Haiti have real needs: needs of a sanitary kitchen, access to health services, and the opportunity to make a difference in their community. The amazing part is that you can help us make a difference with your donation.
Our mission team is currently fundraising and accepting donations to fund the building at the Mexny Orphanage. Your financial contributions are greatly appreciated and will be tax-deductible. The proceeds from this fundraiser will go towards meeting the following primary goals:
1. Build the children of the Mexny Orphanage a kitchen 2. Patient care at Hospital Adventiste d’Haiti 3. Provide physical therapy at Chanje Lavi Rehab Clinic at Hospital Adventista d’Haiti 4. Teach Continued Education Course to Rehabilitation Technician Graduates
Loma Linda University’s program is committed to training students with a global perspective who are committed to service.
