My heart has been calling me to go deeper and give more to the efforts against human trafficking. As the poorest country in the western hemisphere, Haiti struggles to care for it's most vulnerable population. With an estimated 430,000 orphans, it's not surprising that 150,000 - 500,000 children live in domestic servitude, subject to forced labor, beatings and sexual assault and abuse.
Ferrier Villiage consists of 5 homes, a community center and kitchen, a water cistern system, and a security wall. On May 10, 2013, they opened to some of Haiti’s most vulnerable children. Five homes that once sat empty are now full of children and loving house moms. Lives that seemed impossible are now full of hope. They continue to add on more homes, as well as a pre-school for the local community. They are currently at full capacity with 45 children, 10 House Moms, 1 cook, and 2 Directors. And 17 children have been reunified with family over the past 3 years.
So why am I going there? What can one person possibly do? I'm going there to love and support. I'm going to show the House Moms that they are worthy as well. To give compassion, hugs and just a small bit of recognition that they are seen. Possibly even some relief and confirmation that their work is important. I will see first hand what is happening in this community and become an advocate for the vulnerable, weak and disadvantaged. But I need your help to get there.
If you feel so inclined, I would greatly appreciate your support in this journey! Any amount is most welcomed and appreciated. God Bless!
