We are looking to purchase 16 lead-acid batteries, multiple have failed already creating unstable conditions. Each of these batteries cost about $550. Currently we can find the product and labor in Haiti.
Unstable Power: Power in Haiti is slightly more complicated than what you might be used to. Ansanm, and most of Haiti, uses solar power. Panels on the top of the director's house and hospital are used, and the power is stored in lead-acid batteries, much like the ones in your car. Currently we are down a few, so power (lights and electricity) is unstable. Power turns off by 8 most nights and is unreliable.
This instability has delayed a few other projects that are going to need steady power supply. One of those projects is incubators for new chickens for the community which we hope to start soon.
