The Mweruka Junior School is in need of upgrading to provide better services to the children.  From it's start in 2006 in a single, small building providing education for a small number of children in and around Mweruka Village in a very poor, rural area in Uganda, it has grown to provide a very good PK-7th grade education for almost 400 children - many of which are orphans, or living with a guardian, single parents, etc.  

The building program includes a multi-year program.  Thus far we have raised funds to build one new building to replace a condemned building, and upgraded 2 others to a quality that will last many years.  Our ongoing building program includes a prioritized list of the following projects not necessarily in priority order.  Projects will be completed as funding becomes available.

- Full electrification of the campus ($5,000).  We need to raise the funding to install the electrical conduit, wiring, light fixtures, and electrical outlets to connect all of the facilites to the electrical transformer. This will provide power to a new water well and associated, pressurized water filtration and distribution system, power for ventilation in the kitchen, power for a medical/dental clinic, and power for a computer lab among other uses.  

- During the dry season part of the year, the dug well is dry and the school has to import bottled water which is expensive. With the expansion of the school's services into a medical/dental clinic, the use of flush-toilets in new buildings, and a possible vegetable garden the need for a reliable source of water is only going to increase.  This project will drill a new water well approximately 200+/- feet deep, install a down-hole water pump, install the required filtration/purification equipment, and all the pressurized piping necessary to transport it to where it will be consumed($12,500).

- Uprading the Mweruka Junior School Kitchen that provides one meal a day for the 400 children and the staff ($5,000).   Now that the school has been electrified (2024), we plan to change the method of cooking to a type of wood-stove developed by another nonprofit that uses 80% less wood and therefore generates a lot less smoke. In addition we will add electric exhaust fans and vents in the walls to draw the smoke out of the room.

- Improve the drainage of the campus to insure that rainwater does not damage the current buildings and the children are not walking through water between classes ($8,000).

- Provide a medical/dental clinic to improve the health of the children, their families, and the local community ($20,000).

- Develop a Computer Lab to teach the basic computer skills needed to succeed in today's environment ($16,000).

- Provide rainwater collection and storage for water to be used to flush toilets and provide water for the school garden ($4,600).

- Provide upgraded furnishings for the Mweruka Junior School Administration Building and classrooms ($6,500).

- Provide the necessary, separate accommodations and office space for the Uganda Managing Director at the Blessings of Joy House to allow separation from the male and female students housed there ($8,000).

-  Upgrade the Blessings of Joy House kitchen ($3,300).

We are raising awareness to raise the approximately $100,000 necessary to complete these projects.
