After the initial emergency response to save lives, Haiti is
beginning to rebuild as people come alongside and empower the Haitians to solve
problems, create solutions, and provide sustainable programs. Hear The Cry will
be partnering with two Haitian led organizations that are leading the movement
from disaster relief to sustainable development: J/P HRO and the LGL
Foundation.
J/P
Haitian Relief Organization is a non-profit organization founded by the
American actor Sean Penn in response to the January 12, 2010 earthquake in
Haiti. J/P HRO continues to keep in step
with the needs on the ground as they evolve. Hear The Cry will join J/P HRO programs
that focus on supporting the residents of the camps they manage and the
surrounding communities in the ongoing post-earthquake reconstruction effort.
Alongside J/P HRO we’re about
supporting stronger communities in Haiti. Delmas 32 is the community we will be
serving. It’s home to 90,000 residents and is roughly one square Kilometer.
That population density rivals the top 10 cities in the world, according to
recent UN studies. We will have the opportunity to support current development
programs including: medical, engineering and construction, community
development, camp and relocations, and reforestation.
Dr. Louis G. Lamothe is the
founder of the Dr. Louis G. Lamothe Foundation (LGLF). The LGL Foundation works
in the small mountain village of Nan Panyol. The goal is to transform the
community of Nan Panyol into a self-sustaining village through using its own
resources. Hear The Cry will partner with the LGL Foundation alongside sustainable
agriculture projects including: training workshop for the farmers,
reforestation, building training centers, and replanting the Haitian coffee
trees.
Those living in the Raleigh-Durham area are invited to be part of this opportunity and apply today.
