About School in Uganda
School
for the majority of families in Uganda, especially their daughters, is a
dream. 41% of people in Uganda live on less than $1.90 per day
According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics with even more living on
less than a $1 per day. School is a right for every child and you have
to pay every step of the way. Many families will choose the oldest son
in the family and everyone works hard to educate him. In return he is
expected to take care of the whole family. But, in many cases they are
able to educate him up to the equivalent of freshmen or sophomore year
and then schooling gets too expensive for the family. Education is
proven to break the cycle of poverty in families.
School is year
around in Uganda, divided into three terms. The terms begin in January,
May and September with breaks in between to go home to their families.
Majority of children attend boarding school with family visitation on
Sundays. This allows the parents to work and students to get extra
tutoring at night. The good thing about the Elizabeth’s Voice women
children is many of them go to the same school and they are one big
family!
We have students ranging from preschool -
university/trade school. We are committed to seeing each child through
to a career to break the cycle of poverty in their family.
By
signing up to partner with a mom for her children to attend school - you
will receive updates about the family throughout the year. There will
be multiple sponsors for the family so there is no pressure in case you
are unable to support at any time.
