Upon this Help One Now Trip we will meet our local leaders, pastors, and community leaders within Neyba. We will hear their stories, learn more about the vision for their communities, and see firsthand the impact of community development. We will also spend quality time with the kids and enjoy a Christmas party together!
Tentative ScheduleSaturday, Dec. 17th - Travel Day
- drive to Barahona (3-4 hrs)
- Stay the night in Barahona (hotel)
Sunday, December 18th - Spend the day with the kids in Neyba (45 minute drive from Barahona)
- beach day or Christmas party
Monday, December 19th - Spend the day with the kids in Neyba (45 minute drive from Barahona)
- beach day or Christmas party
Tuesday, December 20th - Travel back to Santo Domingo midday
- Spend the evening in Santo Domingo (stay at hotel)
Wed 12/21 - Travel home
VaccinesThere are no required shots; however, the following are typically recommended:
· Typhoid
· Hepatitis A
· Tetanus-diphtheria booster
If you take prescription medicine, make sure you bring enough for the entire trip. Be sure to leave it in their original containers. The following medication is recommended as precaution:
· Malaria Medication - There are several prescriptions available. Please check with your travel nurse.
Please notify Help One Now of any food allergies or medical conditions if it might be important to your safety.
Phones/CommunicationThere are international data plans available; however, it is important that you check with your provider to make sure the DR is covered in the plan.
The safest way to avoid huge roaming charges is to turn off your data when you leave the States and use wifi for communication. If you have an iPhone, you can send iMessages over wifi for free.
InsuranceHelp One Now will purchase trip cancellation and medical evacuation insurance for each of you. You will receive an insurance card to print out and keep with your passport a week before your departure.
Smart Traveler Enrollment ProgramYou will each be registered with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP). This is a free service provided by the US Government for citizens traveling abroad that will allow the US Embassy in the DR to better assist you in the event of an emergency.
Passport & VisaUpon arriving in the DR, you must present a passport with an expiration date further out than six months. You will purchase your visa at the airport for $30.

Snacks - there may be times when it makes more sense to eat snacks for lunch on the go, so please plan accordingly
Sunscreen
Mosquito repellant
Water bottle
Closed toe, sturdy shoes
Above all else, try to pack lightly in order to maximize transportation space.
