Dear Family and Friends,

After traveling to Guatemala this past summer I am now making plans to join my youth group and NEXT Worldwide in the Dominican Republic.  On the island of Hispaniola, just to the southeast of Cuba is where you will find the Dominican Republic and neighboring country, Haiti.              

The city of Puerto Plata lies on the northern coast of the Dominican Republic.  Their land has been ruled and/or influenced by the French and Haitians, the Dutch and English, as well as the Middle East. The Dominican Republic is truly a “global village” in terms of its people and cultural mix.

Puerto Plata is primarily a tourist destination, but it is also home to approximately 200,000 people.There is a great economic contrast between the tourists enjoying the beach resorts and many of the local residents of Puerto Plata who live day to day and have many needs.

Our mission group plans to offer assistance with the spiritual needs of the people who live there, and also to help provide for their physical needs. Through weekly discipleship classes the NEXT organization is training leaders to start churches in areas that need the gospel.
