Prequel: One day about
6 years ago Joe said to d’Lyn “Honey, I think you should go back to school and
become a nurse and in retirements we can serve on medical missions around the
world…You as a nurse and I can do logistics!”
Well, Joe retired in April and d’Lyn has been working as a ER nurse over
a year and a half. Soooo….
Hello Friends and Family
We are so excited to let you know that we will
be going on our first medical mission trip together to Burundi, Africa
September 4th-16th with Foursquare Disaster Relief (FDR) Medical. Burundi
has become the poorest nation in the world:
(The 15 Poorest Countries in the World -
WorldAtlas) With poverty comes worsening morbidity and
mortality rates, therefore an increased need. We will be serving Burundi in the
Ngozi area at the Hope Clinic and out to more rural villages who do not have
access to any medical care. d’Lyn will be working as a nurse and Joe
will be operating in logistics😊.
Hope Medical Clinic was started by Hearts without
Borders over 15 years ago. d’Lyn was pregnant at the time so she fundraised and
supported the founder in an administrative role while her parents, Rick and
Diana Nelson went and helped build it (they actually put her name on a brick during
the construction). We’ve been hearing
about the progression of the medical clinic over the years and we’ve always
wanted to go there…and by God’s grace we are!
This mission will also be
used as a training opportunity with FDR.
FDR Medical is unique in its ability to rapidly deploy with an organized,
faith-based medical response to disaster and humanitarian crisis. In between callouts, they come along side
established clinics and medical outreaches for short term missions. In Burundi, as “the rookies,” we are blessed
to be meeting up with our experienced global team of doctors, nurses, chaplains
and support staff. In this calling, we are looking for partners who want to “go”
on this journey with us and be a part of our financial support and/or prayer
team.
Financial support: We
know many would like to go and help but can’t right now. We’ll be your hands and feet extended (and then maybe
we can go together someday). The travel,
lodging, meals, medical supplies, etc are $6000 for the two of us. Tax deductible donations can be made through this website. (PS Airline miles or flight
credit for future missions would also be wonderful. Please let us know if that would be a
possibility)
Prayer support: We need you!
If you would like to be on our prayer team, please contact one of us.
Thank you so much for being you. We both love you all and hope to
see you soon with an update!
