This year the Annual Christmas Drive is focusing on improving the health of sponsored children and their families.  Due to the prevalence of contaminated water, clean and purified water is a critical and essential need in Rwanda. Let’s help Rwandan families reduce preventable illnesses and diseases by equipping each sponsorship home and church gathering areas with water filters designed to sanitize drinking water.

Unsafe drinking water is the third leading cause of disease in Rwanda. Diarrhea, which is associated with dirty drinking water, is the leading cause of illness among school-aged children in Rwanda. Contaminated water can transmit diseases such intestinal worms, diarrhea, cholera, dysentery, typhoid, polio and more. Eden’s Child staff in Rwanda estimate that over 70% of sponsor children and their families are drinking unsafe water every day.

With your donation of $50, we can purchase a ceramic water sanitizing filter for a sponsor family, providing clean water to supply their daily needs for drinking and washing cooking pots and utensils. The Viva Purifaaya™ water filter has been selected for our program due to its availability in Rwanda, great features and affordable price. This is a ceramic water filter with a total capacity of up to 5 gallons. It is highly effective, providing 99.99% protection against germs and bacteria without the need for boiling water. With a filtration rate of nearly 1 gallon per hour, it can serve up to fifteen people and requires no power source.
