About Ferrier

Ferrier Village is a trafficking prevention initiative that is currently home to 45 children. The children of Ferrier Village are all double orphaned—without a mother, without a father, and without any appropriate oversight or supervision. Kids in this situation are extremely vulnerable to human trafficking. These kids have been rescued from lives of slavery and abandonment – living alone on the streets at 4 years old without a name; living in a home as a domestic servant at 5; enduring neglect and hunger. Help One Now has partnered with local leader Jean Alix Paul since 2013 to see that these children are rescued into lives of hope.

The Goal

Along with the Village that provides shelter and love, Help One Now and Jean Alix Paul have worked together to open a preschool to provide education for the children living at Ferrier Village. The preschool is also open to children from the surrounding community. It has quickly become known as one of the best preschools in the region!

Help One Now and Ferrier Village plan to serve more children and families in the community by expanding the preschool! Our goal is to build and resource 3 new classrooms, as well as to install solar panels for a reliable and efficient source of power. The total amount needed to complete this project is $120,000. This expansion will impact 750 people every year!

Investing in early childhood education is one of the most effective things we can do to eliminate extreme poverty.

Education during the infant and toddler years creates the foundation for a child’s learning, health, and behavior. Ultimately it creates a platform for the ability to earn a stable income later in life, thus cutting off the cycle of poverty.

This investment in a young child’s education not only has an impact in the present, but has a ripple effect of transformation for years to come. Nobel laureate James Heckman has shown that education for infants and toddlers will increase their future earnings by 25%, and for every $1 invested in early childhood education, the economy benefits by $6-17 dollars! The impacts of high quality early education continue on throughout a child’s entire life touch to their community, their future families and children, and the economy of their entire country.
