BIG NEWS! Foley First Presbyterian Church will be hosting a Sole Hope Shoe Party!
Sole Hope is a non-profit organization working in Uganda, Africa providing education and care for individuals and communities suffering from jiggers. They exist to bring hope and practical solutions to those they serve. African sand fleas, jiggers, are parasites that burrow into flesh, primarily the feet, causing damage to healthy tissue, which leads to secondary infections, or worse in many cases, if left untreated.
In addition to Sole Hope’s staff in the US and Uganda, they are supported by people of all ages across the globe. The assistance of these supporters is essential to the work being done in Uganda, and they are able to directly impact the mission of Sole Hope in several ways.
Each person who is cared for by Sole Hope receives a new pair of handcrafted shoes to cover and protect their feet. Skilled tailors and shoemakers employed by Sole Hope take the denim shoe patterns and turn them into durable, closed- toed shoes. Volunteers across the US and in other parts of the world host Shoe Parties where groups come together to trace and cut shoe patterns from old blue jeans. Participants complete sets of shoes, pin them together, and send them to Sole Hope with Next Step donations that cover the next steps in the process from shipping to tailoring to fitting jigger-free feet.
Foley FPC is doing their part by hosting a shoe party. The idea was introduced to the congregation by our youth. They had the opportunity to participate in a shoe party while at a youth conference and wanted to share that experience with the congregation.
Every donation is important and will enable us to help others in need. Would you kindly consider making a donation? Also, I would appreciate your willingness to share this with others who may want to participate.
Thank you so much for helping us accomplish something that's important to all of us!
