BIG NEWS! I am a part of a team that will be traveling to Ghana, West Africa this summer to learn about modern day slavery and how we can make a difference in the world.
Ghana is home to the slave castles that were active during the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Even though the darkest part of the castles' history ended when Britain abolished the slave trade in 1807, modern day slavery still exists, on every continent. Our journey will take us to several historic sites where we will reflect and learn to lament the injustices of the past. We will visit organizations that are working diligently to free those who are still enslaved in Ghana's fishing industry; and we will be encouraged by the resiliency of the human spirit and the transformational power of God to forgive, heal, and redeem through the simple actions of play with children and tutoring students who have been rescued from their captors. We will also learn from fair trade and organic farmers who are changing the history of their country by creating sustainable practices and fair wage jobs. Our goal is to learn from the Ghanians and understand how we can participate in being people of impact in making the world a better place for all humanity.
If you would like to assist in our educational and service journey, we have started a team fundraiser on Pure Charity to help offset the funding that is needed. We have a one time goal of raising $16,000 that will go directly towards the cost of our teams expenses. Every donation is tax deductible and greatly appreciated. Would you kindly consider making a donation? We look forward to sharing with you our learnings when we return. Thank you for your consideration!
