All that is left now is for you to add the color...
I recently read The Hole in Our Gospel and Half the Sky. Both books left me heavy-hearted but hopeful...and both pointed to many ways to affect poverty in the world for better. One of the recurring themes in this fight against poverty, disease, and abuse is education.
I had never spent much time up until these books thinking about actual poverty~ to me, it was as simple to solve as throwing money in the direction of the poor and hoping they did the right thing with it. Naive. Foolish. And yeah, totally ignorant.
After reading these two books (and some others), I spent a lot of time researching different charities...ways to not just give money, but understand how it is used. Education kind of just surfaced as something I really looked for in ways the money was applied because so many poverty, disease, and trafficking issues can be thwarted by providing education, especially to women.
Help One Now clicked. I love the approach this organization takes to combating such issues. Help One Now feels like a very intentional, deliberate, and focused assault on poverty and trafficking. I really like the small scope of their projects, which together, often build and culminate into the transformation of entire groups of people.
The new campaign, Help One Classroom is described below. Please read it.
"#HelpOneClassroom is our new annual campaign to sponsor 25 teachers in Haiti and Uganda for the upcoming school year. Our goal is $62,500 -- $2500 per teacher. By ensuring that the teachers can provide for themselves and their families and equipping their classrooms with the necessary supplies, we enhance the education that our students receive. Education saves children’s lives, promotes girl’s and women’s rights, makes people healthier, boosts economic growth, reduces poverty, and increases income. The future of every country, city and community lies in the children."
You can read how the $2,500 is broken down and applied to the teachers/classrooms by visiting here: http://www.helponenow.org/helponeclassroom/
The classrooms being helped are located in both Uganda and Haiti. You can read the individual teacher's stories by visiting the link above as well.
This campaign makes sense. It just does. Teachers should be paid. They should be able to provide for themselves and their families. Anything less is not right. Classrooms and teachers and students~ they should have the ability to thrive. This project allows that to become a reality.
Here is how this works for you.
Please donate at least $5 USD toward a one time goal of $2500 for one teacher's salary and supplies for one calendar year.
That is a little more than a large latte at Starbucks.
Every person who donates at least $5 to this fundraiser will receive a set of three exclusive digital stamps. They will be in jpg form and will never be available in my shop or as rubber.
*For those of you who do not stamp, think printable coloring book sheets. These are protected by copyright and only available for personal use.
In order to receive your stamps, you must:
~donate > $5
~forward a copy of your donation receipt to krista7smith@yahoo.com
~wait patiently...they will be emailed to you within 24 hours.
Then give yourself a high five and start coloring...Because today your craftiness helped change lives. Thanks for helping me help others!
