We’re raising $2,400 to rebuild Mr. Logan’s deck, a key part of maintaining homes within the emerging Fayetteville Black Historic District. This deck repair isn’t just about replacing old wood—it’s about preserving the character and comfort of the people who help shape this historic community.
About the Project:
Mr. Logan’s deck has seen better days, with warped wood, soft spots, and damaged posts from a tree falling. Our plan is to tear down the old structure, replace it with safe, long-lasting materials, and ensure the space remains a welcoming spot for him and his family. We’ve already measured the space and spoken with Mr. Logan about the new deck, which will replicate the original size of 15' x 25'. To keep costs low, we’ll reuse some of the beams, but the majority of the deck will be new to ensure it lasts for years to come.
Additionally, we’ve considered the removal of a large stump under the deck. While it's not necessary for the deck’s structural integrity, removing it would enhance the overall project. However, we want to be mindful of expenses, so we are focusing on what's most essential. We would welcome any support if a company would like to volunteer their time & equipment to remove this stump.
Why This Matters:
This isn’t just a repair; it’s a small step towards a bigger vision. Mr. Logan’s deck is part of the Fayetteville Black Historic District, an area that celebrates the vibrant cultural heritage of Black Arkansans. By helping to preserve his home, you are directly contributing to the development of this historic district.
The Fayetteville Black Historic District represents resilience and the preservation of Black history in Northwest Arkansas. As we work toward transforming this area into a thriving Afrofuturist Museum and Meditative Space, every project, like Mr. Logan’s deck, plays a role in building the future.
