Hurricane Florence took it's toll on the Carolinas as it stalled over North Carolina and South Carolina this past weekend. The town of New Bern has not seen an end to rainfall yet.
The flooding from the Neuse and Trent rivers compounded in this city, requiring a mid-storm mandatory evacuation, and putting the entire town underwater. We know that schools are more than just a place of education, but where some kids receive their hot meals for the day, and a safe place to be while their parents work. These schools, and homes of these families are currently under water.
Through a partnership with The Flourish Market, we are raising funds and supplies for a local school, West Craven Middle, and the families of the students so they can rebuild and restart.
100% of the funds received (after processing fee) will go directly to rebuilding for these students and their families. We are in touch with their Principal to organize relief efforts.
Immediate disaster relief made it in the way of evacuation, but even more flooding is expected Wednesday and Thursday as officials predict the river level to rise once again.
We will update this page as we have more updates on recovery and relief efforts. The town is still under a mandatory evacuation at this time.
