Hope for the Island Child ("HFIC") is an orphanage and school on Bulamu Island (formerly Bussi Island) located on Lake Victoria, just outside of Entebbe, Uganda. The original name "Bussi Island" translates in English to "Murder Island", but at HFIC we prefer to call it "Bulamu Island", which translates to "Life Island", much more fitting!
The orphanage & school is home to over 120 boys and girls, ranging from ages 6-17, and provides 3 meals per day, when provisions allow. A few local children, sponsored by their parents/family, also attend the school. But the critical mission of HFIC reaches well beyond the walls of its campus on Bulamu, as it touches and affects countless lives on the surrounding islands and villages bringing life giving services such as clean water wells and medical attention to these fishing communities. The ripple affect of any support given to this impactful undertaking is truly immeasurable.
That's why we started this fundraiser on Pure Charity. Every penny of this goes into the general fund that provides HFIC with the provisions needed on a daily basis, including but not limited to: food, teacher salaries, transportation, school supplies, toiletries, sanitation, hygienic and medical supplies. In addition to sustaining the current level of children being educated, we want to extend our reach to the other boys and girls of the community who cannot afford an education and give them the opportunity to attend our school. This powerful project ensures that the vulnerable children under our care are afforded a bright future and serves as a solid springboard to reaching deeper into the most remote villages, and truly bringing "Bulamu" to the islands!
Thank you for helping us make a difference!
